Members of the Lake Health Leadership Network (HLN) are currently providing a number of activities related to obesity prevention and improving overall health status via school, hospital, county and community-based programs. Common goals include:
- Strengthening individual knowledge and skills
- Promoting community education
- Educating providers
- Fostering Coalitions and Networks
- Changing Organization Practices, and
- Influencing policy and legislation.
The priorities that Lake HLN members are currently addressing include:
- Improve streets for walking and biking
- Increase access to physical activity facilities
- Ensure that children receive quality physical education by training teachers/staff working with children/youth
- Incorporate food and beverage standards within preschool, school and after-school programs
- Implement Farm-to-Institution programs that bring fresh produce to school, hospitals and worksites whenever possible
- Help organizations create healthier work environments
- Develop a curriculum to address prevention priorities.
