Planning Begins for March 2010 Food Summit

One component of an HLN grant proposal recently funded by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is a Food Summit that will primarily promote the rewards of buying and eating fresh, locally-grown foods.

Ideas for presentations and workshops under discussion include Plants that Heal, a facilitated dicussion between local growers and buyers aimed at closing local delivery system gaps, and the use of prescriptions for food and activity to treat malnutrition.

Please email questions, comments and/or suggestions about this or other HLN projects to Jackie Armstrong jsa0871@sbcglobal.net.

 OPEN HOUSE

An exhibit of Native American creations, including many examples of traditional Pomo Basketry, by participants in Lake County Tribal Health Clinic's Cultural Wellness Class will be featured during an Open House from 11 am to 2 pm on Thursday, November 10th.  LCTHC is located at 925 Bevins Ct., Lakeport.  For more information, please call 263-8382 ext. 37.

ACTIVE LIVING

Recreation Survey

HLN staff is working to identify sites and instructors in order to offer the top 3-4 activities identified in its recent Recreation Survey.  The top activities across most age groups included gymnastics, martial arts, dancing, yoga and outdoor activities.  The overall goal of these recreation activities is to promote strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health over the lifespan.  If you or someone you know is qualified to instruct or lead these types of exercises, please send an email to jsa0871@sbcglobal.net.

CATCH Equipment Purchase

HLN recently purchased a supply of balls, jump ropes, hula hoops and frisbees to reward CATCH School Site Councils for their work to support and monitor CATCH activities.  For more information about the Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH), please call Tammy Alakszay at 263-6291 ext. 10.
