 ONLINE FOOD ORDERING SYSTEM

HLN is implementing a grant that was awarded to Public Health Services from CA Dept. of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) last fall.  This grant includes an online ordering system as a means to facilitate easy purchase of produce between local growers and buyers.  Two strong proposals for development of a local online food ordering system were received in response to a RFP released in April.

In May, the online ordering proposals were reviewed and interviews conducted with both applicants, resulting in an award going to the Lake County Farm Bureau.

As soon as the contract process is completed, the Farm Bureau's Market Manager will begin working with institutional buyers and local growers while simultaneously constructing the online ordering system.  In the future, the system will be expanded to include individual consumers as well as growers and buyers in neighboring counties.

Health Services and HLN are grateful for the quality and thoroughness of the two proposals submitted by the Farm Bureau and Rich Adams as well as for the unique experiences and perspectives contributed by the selection committee members who lent their time to the process: Rachel Elkins, Holly Harris, Denise Pomeroy, Ed Roby, Cornelia Sieber-Davis, and Debra Sommerfield.

LOCAL FOOD GUIDE

HLN staff is currently collecting artiles, content suggestions, and local data for inclusion in a Local Food Guide that may include the following kinds of information:

  • Farmer Listings
  • List of seasonal crops
  • Nutritional and diet data
  • Farmers' Markets and outlets for local foods
  • Recipes
  • Canning/Preserving references
  • Community & schoolgGardens
  • Food banks

Because HLN is a small organization, we ask that your submittals be specific rather than global (i.e. a single article rather than a link to expansive websites).  Submittals, inquiries, suggestions and comments can be sent to hlnassistant@sbcglobal.net.
