 CLASSROOM BASKETS OF LOCAL BOUNTY

Beginning in August 2009, Riviera Elementary School PTO President Crystal Smith spends an hour or two each Tuesday and Thursday morning filling 11 classroom baskets with locally grown pears, apples, and sometimes zucchini bread or walnuts for classroom snacks.  At Kelseyville Elementary School, baskets are filled and distributed by PTO President Amber Guistolise.

Beyond purchasing local produce for classroom snacks, Kelseyville Unified School District Food Services Director Michelle Malm demonstrates her support of the Farm-to-School concept by using other locally grown food including fresh eggs in the kitchen.   This year's vendors include Seely's Farm, Leonardis Organics, Love Farms and G Bar G Ranch.  Local growers interested in being considered for next year's vendor list should call Michelle at 279-2519.
