Organizations can improve the health of their employees, members and community by instituting policies that encourage healthful practices. 

  • Provide time to engage in a variety of physical activities.
  • Provide water to drink.
  • Adopt nutrition standards for healthy meals, snacks and beverages.
  • Establish accessible Farmers' Markets or farm stand programs in underserved areas.
  • Promote and establish community gardening initiatives.
  • Maintain and develop programming and facilities (including park programs) for active play and recreation.
  • Support breastfeeding.
  • Participate in the public policy process to highlight the need for community changes to improve eating and activity habits.
 

The Environmental Nutrition and Activity Tool (ENACT) is a menu of strategies to improve nutrition and activity in seven environments:  Childcare, School, After-School, Community, Workplace, Healthcare and Government.

Each ENACT strategy presents useful information based on current research and pactices and includes medol policies and programs, hands-on tools and resources.  For more details about ENACT, please click on the following link to the Prevention Institute's website.  

ENACT is the yard stick selected by HLN in its CA Endowment Obesity Prevention grant for partners to identify ways they will support opportunities for improving nutrition and fitness choices among all population sectors countywide.  The following document is a summary of Lake County priorities and progress as of Winter 2008:
