COBB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 2010 HARVEST FESTIVAL Students, parents and teachers gathered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010, to celebrate their 30-year-old school garden that was originally developed to support classroom science lessons. Just recently, a group of active parents and teachers resurrected the garden, fallow since the 1990s, with the goal of engaging students in the nutritional and community benefits of growing food. Proceeds from the sale of home made cookies and fresh lemonade will be dedicated to garden improvements. Parent volunteers also displayed numerous gardening brochures and booklets provided by Master Gardeners and 4H. Student-painted signs designate the garden's different crops (see "Strawberries" sign to left). River Dog Farm donated fresh produce to supplement the garden's first harvest in a number of years. Nutritional and healthy lifestyle information was provided by Sutter Lakeside Hospital and the Health Leadership Network. |
Crop signs (this one for "Strawberries") were painted by Cobb Elementary School students. A variety of instruments were available throughout the Harvest Festival to provide students with the opportunity to 'jam' with the event's musical entertainer. |
